About Policies for Procurement

Policy for Procurement is an important component in purchasing for NSW Government agencies.

NSW Treasury is responsible for Procurement Policy initiatives including enhanced monitoring of major capital works projects. NSW Procurement is responsible for upholding these policies in all their procurement solutions and for providing further information on how to access information on using procurement policy.

The fundamental objective of the NSW Government Procurement Policy is to ensure that government procurement activities achieve best value for money in supporting the delivery of government services. The Policy emphasises agency accountability for outcomes, and greater upfront planning and stronger linkage with the State Budget process prior to allocation of capital funding.

In addition, the NSW Government has developed a Gateway Review Process to enhance procurement discipline and to achieve greater alignment between procurement outcomes and service needs.
