6 Step Process Overview

This six step process guides agencies through each step of the procurement process and are common to all categories of procurement. The relative importance of different stages is proportional to the size and type of procurement. What has to be done in each stage depends on what is being procured.

  • Needs Analysis
    Determine the need to be met and whether procurement is the optimal delivery option.
  • Funding Approval
    Determine the scope of the project and the six stage process guides agencies through each step of the procurement process.
  • Project Procurement Plan
    Determine the strategy for approaching the market and develop a procurement plan to ensure a viable acquisition outcome.
  • Service Provider Selection
    Produce tender documentation and seek offers from the market. Select service provider(s) that provides best value for money.
  • Contract Management
    Ensure Service Provider(s) deliver the asset, goods or services in accordance with contractual obligations. Appropriate disposal at end of the goods or asset life.
  • Procurement Evaluations
    Review the outcomes of the project and disseminate any learnings.
